Coronavirus update from Tony DeSantis: We are here to support you
A letter from The General Insurance® President & CEO

I want to thank you for the trust you put in The General Insurance and our employees. As President & CEO, I feel it’s important to share an update on how we are responding to the coronavirus situation.

The General’s pandemic team has been working closely with our parent company, American Family Insurance, and other companies within our enterprise to monitor the virus and the impact it’s having across our country and world for several weeks. There’s no question that the health and safety of our people is our top priority. I would also add that your health and safety is just as important. We are meeting every day and are continually taking action to:

  • Establish policies that reduce the spread of the virus.
  • Ensure the health and safety of our employees.
  • Deliver uninterrupted business operations for our policyholders.

Part of The General’s mission is to ensure our customers receive exceptional service at every touchpoint. While everything happening in the world can be jarring to our lives, communities and way of life – and threaten the things and people we care most about – I want to reassure you that The General is prepared and actively managing all aspects of the situation so we can continue serving you in your time of need.

That’s important to me, and it’s important to the nearly 1,350 people who work at The General.

We’re also aware that, given the current situation, how you choose to do business with us may involve more online or self-service options for the near future. Like we’ve shared with our employees if you’re not feeling well it’s best to stay home. We support that approach.

I’d encourage you to download The General’s mobile app if you haven’t already. You can file claims here, pull up proof of insurance, make payments, and so much more. You can also get assistance on our website, or call us at 1-800-280-1466.

The General Insurance is committed – and prepared – to serve you while also keeping our people and communities safe. Jack Salzwedel, the American Family Insurance Chair and CEO, said it well when he stated, “So often, we’re at our best when the situation appears to be at its worst. We’re on this journey with you and look forward to supporting you in whatever way we can.”

Thank you for continuing to put your trust in all of us here at The General Insurance.
